Surfing Costa Rica

If the idea of surfing in Costa Rica surprises you, then you must be living under a rock for a long while. Those who know better would go gaga over the country’s warm waters, consistent year-round surfs, easy-to-access breaks, and friendly people– all summing up to give you one hell of a surf ride!
Known as the “Hawaii of Latin-American Surfing”, Costa Rica is the leading surfer hotspot in the world today. True to its nickname, Costa Rica is just like Hawaii minus the throng of people so you will really have a blast riding against waves of very clean and pristine waters. And if that’s not enough, the beaches of Costa Rica pride itself for having five-star hotel accommodations for a lesser price. That’s value for your money! I bet Hawaii doesn’t have that.

You may not get to see monster waves that are a favorite of many surfers here but unlike these waves that are seasonal, Costa Rica’s good-size mile breaks are available all the time; always ready to give you a thrilling experience that would make you screaming for more! Here is a list of my top surf destinations: Playa Hermosa, Playa Grande, Pavones, Witches Rock, Salsa Brava, Dominical, Santa Teresa Mal Pais, Playa Negra, Playa Junquillal, and Playa Avellana. And it gets better! Costa Rica is such a small country that you can easily jump from one surf spot to another, allowing you to have a taste of all it’s surf destinations!
So, wait no more! Squeeze yourself into your most comfy board shorts, grab onto your most dependable surf board, put on that sunblock, and just let yourself be drifted away in a surfer’s paradise that is Costa Rica.
