The Joys Of Sports Fishing In Costa Rica
If you think that fishing simply involves a boat and a big net in tow, better think again! While I have so much respect for commercial fishermen who catch fish for profit, those who engage in sport fishing take the fishing level up a notch. These swashbucklers catch fish for competition, not to mention the pure excitement and pleasure they get from the challenge!
Sport fishing participants don’t just catch any fish in sight for the sake of catching. Think big, think game fish like marlin, tuna, tarpon, sailfish, mackerel, and even sharks! And the environment-loving folks will give both their thumbs up for this sport since the fish caught aren’t always served for dinner. A desire to perk up the fishing industry has prompted a number of sport fishermen to catch and release- an act where after catching a big fish, they’d fit ‘em with identity tags, record their vitals, and mail in a record to a government agency, then they release it back to the ocean. What other sport has such nobility, eh?

Any person can join in this fun sport but one has to have the right gadgets. Sport fishing would at least require you to have a rod, reel, line, hooks and any one of a wide variety of baits. Needless to say, a fishing boat that boasts of the best, up to date electronic fishing and safety gears fully loaded with all the luxuries to make the event a bliss is a must. (Fishing boats are usually rented owing to its size, unless your Superman and can easily carry it around)
If you’re a novice, the best way to end your longing for this sport is to go to Quepos, Costa Rica. It ranks itself as the top choice for sport fishing destinations in Costa Rica, even in the whole Central America! If you’re problem is how to get there, fret no more. It’s just a plane ride away through Domestic SANSA, found adjacent to Juan Santamaria International Airport. You only have to shell out a measly $20 for it. But if you prefer the land, better rent a car or take a modern direct bus from the Coca Cola Bus Terminal (this will only cost you $6) from downtown San Jose where it will only take you 3 ½ hours to complete the trip. Once there, just tell the locals you want to fish and they are friendly enough to show you where to go!
