You’re into fishing, you say? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Costa Rica is home to many species of pescado (fish). Some of them might even be unique in North America. There is much to know about the fish life here. And there’s always something great to go fishing for when you visit Costa Rica. Here are a few fishes you’d want to try to catch!

Beginning November when they are plentiful in the Golfito region, sailfish and marlin swim northward through the year. They then spread north to Quepos from December into April. Quepos then becomes one of Costa Rica’s best deep-sea fishing sites. Along Nicoya Peninsula at Carillo and Samara, marlin and sailfish move in large numbers from February to April. They proceed soon after near Tamarindo and Flamingo from May to September. The Pacific Ocean sailfish can weigh over 45 kilograms (100 pounds). They are caught on a 15-pound line or less. It is by law in Costa Rica that these fishes be released after being caught. However, record catches are brought back to land. All of the country’s travel agencies and hotels can arrange fishing trips. Sports fishing operate full service charters on areas mentioned above.
