When you and your buddies have spent your Friday evening drinking cervezas, margaritas and God knows what, you all vote for that last shot of tequila as your ZARPE (zar-peh) before asking for LA CUENTA (la kwen-tah).

My Nose And The Security Guard’s Tonic

It’s been two months and a half after that incident in Playas del Coco where a part my nostril got sliced free. Since I haven’t talked openly about it since the incident, I guess now is the time to do so. When my friends finally drove me to the emergency room, the doctor looked at my nose and I notice that the loose flap of bloody skin had been my right nostril.

When your tico friends suddenly invite you on a game of MEJENGA (meh-jeng-gah) on a Saturday morning, you better not spend the evening before it partying.

My Bowl Of Perk Me Up

I am a very active person. I jog before dawn, start work at seven in the morning, and hit the beach for a swim before it hits noon. I normally have energy for the entire day but sometimes, my body gets tired and worn down. With more work in the afternoon and evening, I need something to rev me up for the remainder of the day. When that happens, I make a beeline to the nearest soda and get myself a steaming bowl of what I call “perk me up”. I order rondon soup.
