How to Date a Costa Rican Woman

By BobbyRica | October 26, 2011

If there’s one thing about Costa Rica that is more beautiful than the country itself, it has to be the women. Nothing can be more charming than a Ticowith lovely black eyes, long dark hair, and sun-kissed olive skin. Indeed, I find Costa Rican women very mesmerizing. I often admired them whenever I go on my Costa Rica adventures, whether in the city or country.

I’m not an expert on Costa Rican women, but one thing I’m sure of is this: they are not like American women. You will not meet them in college parties or bars. You will rarely see them wearing revealing clothing and heavy makeup. They are not meek, nor are they outspoken; instead, they are independent, smart individuals who know when to be silent and when to speak their minds.

If you’re a bit like me, you’re probably interested in dating a Costa Rican woman. Before you go and travel to this exciting country, here are a few smart tips you should keep in mind.

Appreciate her cooking. Costa Rican women are great cooks who put all their effort in every dish they create. One proof of this is the sodas — the family-run restaurants you’ll see in many busy cities, including San Jose — It’s possible that the ones doing the cooking and who have memorized the family recipes are the women. If you manage to make friends with a Costa Rican woman, and she invites you to dine at her place, don’t refuse! Expect to be served a wide array of dishes, such as Arroz con Pollo and gallo pinto. Enjoy every bite of it.

You should respect her family as much as you respect her. If you make her choose between you or them, she would probably choose them — that’s how devoted she is. Unlike American women who prefer to live independently, the women of Costa Rica have strong ties to their family. They do not leave their parent’s home until they are married. There are some who do leave their homes to study college — but this is very rare.

Costa Rican women greatly value their family’s traditions, which include important celebrations like baptism, first communions, weddings, and funerals. If you ever get invited to one of her family’s special days, don’t be surprised at the large crowd that will be present! Costa Ricans invite all their family members and friends to these gatherings.

Never think they are weak. The old belief that women should be kept in the house is no longer popular in Costa Rica. Although the women are expected to act differently from each other, Costa Rican women are now professionals that hold important positions in both businesses and the government. I once met this pretty, but quiet and conservative woman while shopping for souvenirs. Turns out she was a manager in one of the banks in San Jose.

Love God and she’ll love you for it. American women are not as expressive of their faith as Costa Rican women — they are very religious. They follow Christian moral values and implement them in their daily responsibilities. They go to mass on holy days of obligation. If she invites you to join her, oblige. And make sure you wear something appropriate!

Finally, you should appreciate her for who she is. Don’t compare her to all the American ladies you’ve been with before. Let her know that you’re not just interested in her looks but her whole personality as well. If you remember to do all these, then you might find yourself dating a Costa Rican woman — and I’ll give you a pat on the back!
