If you are stressed, it’s perfectly understandable to want some smokes. So if you are in dire need of a puff, approach the nearest tico and bum a BLANCO (blang-koh). They’d probably give you one with a smile. Just don’t blame me if you get lung cancer later on.
Rondalla Music Signals The Start Of The Year-End Fiestas.
It’s that time of the year and the end-of-the-year fiestas are happening again. It is the time when the air is filled with sound of minstrel groups called rondalla perform during parties. churches and special events. They are similar to the mariachi but when you hear them further you start spotting the difference. As a sample to what you can hear when you come to Costa Rica, here’s a video of the El burro e’chilo performed by the Rondalla de la Fuerza Pública.

When you see your tico friend looking groovy, you tell him he’s BUENA NOTA (boo-weh-nah no-tah). If he looks utterly horrible, then you shout MALA NOTA (mah-lah no-tah)and throw him a tomato.
