Watch Stefani run.

When I said I ran into Stefani, I literally almost hit her in the road. For a few tense moments, her face shifted from alarm, confusion, recognition, and a sudden determination. She shuffled her feet into the car and shouted at me “¡Déle! ¡Déle!”

In so many words she had explained her predicament. She had come to Cape Town, like me, with some casual travel and job prospects in mind. The employers that brought here there were to take her to poverty stricken Nyanga. She heard hushed whispers along the way and finally found someone who told her in rough Spanish what she really signed up for.

Poor, silly, naive, lovable Stefani. I was certainly not going to let anything happen to her on my watch, not to have to explain to Eva and their family, and certainly not since I would never forgive myself.

At that moment, yours truly went into action hero mode.
